Basil seeds can be started indoors in early spring or sown directly outdoors after the risk of frost has passed.
Seeds should be placed on the surface of moist soil and gently pressed down without heavy covering because basil seeds require light for germination.
Under warm conditions seedlings usually appear within 7–14 days. Young plants should receive bright light and moderate watering.
Once seedlings develop several leaves they can be transplanted to their final growing location with spacing of approximately 25–30 cm between plants.
