One of the most striking features of the Empress Tree is its enormous foliage. After flowering, the tree develops huge, soft, velvety leaves that can reach up to 60 cm across. 🍃 These architectural leaves give the tree a bold, tropical appearance and make it an outstanding specimen tree or focal point in gardens and landscapes.
This species is exceptionally fast growing. Under good conditions, seedlings can grow up to 6 feet in their first year. 🌱 Within just 3–5 years, Paulownia Tomentosa achieves a size that many trees take decades to reach. Because of this rapid growth, it is often grown as a shade tree or managed as a coppiced or stool-grown specimen to emphasize foliage size rather than flowers.
When grown as a stool plant, all growth is cut back to ground level each year, usually in early spring. This encourages the development of a single strong shoot that can reach up to 3 meters (10 feet) in one season, carrying enormous leaves and creating a dramatic ornamental effect. 🌳 In colder regions, the tree is sometimes cut back in autumn and grown as a large-leaved shrub the following year.
Paulownia Tomentosa Seeds are easy to germinate, and seedlings grow rapidly when given warmth, light, and consistent moisture.
