🌱 Yard Long Bean, Snake Bean, Chinese Long Bean Seeds produce a unique climbing bean known for its very long pods. This vegetable comes from Southeast Asia and China. It is widely grown in warm climates and traditional kitchen gardens.
The plant belongs to the species Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis. Gardeners often call it the asparagus bean. Plants grown from Yard Long Bean, Snake Bean, Chinese Long Bean Seeds form vigorous climbing vines. The vines can reach about 2 meters in height.
Because of their growth habit, these beans need strong support. Gardeners usually grow them on trellises or poles. A wigwam frame works well, similar to runner beans or climbing French beans.
The pods are long, thin, and round. Under warm conditions they may reach up to 100 cm in length. However, the best harvest stage is earlier. Pods should be picked when they reach about 30 cm long and are still thin. At this stage they remain tender and slightly sweet.
