🌿 Cornus mas, commonly known as Cornelian Cherry or European Cornel, is a deciduous shrub or small tree from the dogwood family (Cornaceae), native to southern Europe and southwestern Asia — from France to Iran. It is prized for both its early yellow blooms and delicious red fruits rich in vitamin C.
This species grows 5–12 meters tall, forming a dense, rounded shape. Its dark brown branches and greenish twigs contrast beautifully with the bright yellow flowers, which appear in late winter (February–March), long before the leaves. The oval red fruits (2 cm long) ripen in mid to late summer, resembling small cherries.

When ripe, the Cornelian Cherry fruits turn deep red and develop a tart, cranberry-like flavor. They are eaten fresh, dried, or processed into:
