This variety is especially adaptable, thriving in well-drained, fertile soil with sufficient moisture 💧. It grows well near other vegetables like lettuce, spinach, and beans, making it a great companion plant in vegetable gardens 🌿🥬. The leaves form a rosette at the apex, with elongated, light green, slightly hairy foliage, while the roots thicken into smooth, cylindrical, or round shapes suitable for culinary uses 🥄.
Each gram of Kranjska beet seeds contains 300–400 tiny seeds, making it easy to plant large areas or home gardens 🌱. Beetroot is typically grown after cereals, early fodder crops, or industrial peas, providing both food for humans and fodder for animals 🐄. It requires irrigation for optimal growth and does not tolerate water stagnation ❌💦. To prevent soil-borne diseases and nutrient depletion, rotate crops and avoid planting beets in the same location for 3–4 years, and do not grow alongside other cabbages during this period 🌾↔️🥬.
Beet seeds generally germinate in about 15 days, with a minimum temperature of 5°C and optimal temperature around 20°C 🌡️. The variety can withstand light frosts down to -4°C, provided they are brief ❄️. Direct sowing is common, although seedlings can be started indoors for earlier harvests 🌱🏡. Precision seed drills are often used in commercial cultivation, with row spacing of 20–30 cm and spacing between plants of around 10 cm, requiring 1.5–2.5 kg of seeds per hectare depending on local conditions.
If planting for smaller gardens, sow 15–20 plants per m², with row spacing of 40 cm and plant spacing of 5–10 cm. Depending on soil and previous crops, sowing can occur from March to May or in late June to mid-July for a late summer harvest 🌞.
Beets are typically ready in 80–90 days, when the roots reach a diameter of 6–10 cm 🥄. Harvesting is done in the second half of October or early November, before severe frosts, using suitable excavators or by hand 🌿✂️. After harvesting, leaves are trimmed, and roots are sorted by size 🗂️. Yield depends on soil fertility, rainfall, and care, usually ranging from 20–60 t/ha 💪. Beets store well in cool, dry conditions and can be kept for several months for winter use ❄️🥗.
