The Blue Spruce, also known as Green Spruce, White Spruce, Colorado Spruce, or Colorado Blue Spruce, is a stunning conifer native to the Rocky Mountains of the United States. Its natural range spans from northern New Mexico through Colorado and Utah to Wyoming, extending into far southwest Montana. Today, it has been widely introduced worldwide and is highly valued as an ornamental tree.
The blue spruce is instantly recognizable by its silvery-blue to bluish-green needles, giving a unique color contrast in gardens and landscapes. This evergreen tree grows conically or columnar, with densely arranged horizontal branches and waxy, grey-green leaves up to 3 cm long.
