While the pods turn green when cooked, the stems often retain their red hue, adding interest even after harvest. Red Okra Burgundy plants are compact and manageable, making them suitable for garden beds and larger containers. 🌱
This variety stays tender longer than many traditional okra types and does not become woody as quickly. For best quality, pods should be harvested young, when they are between 3 and 6 inches long.

Red Okra Burgundy Seeds can be sown directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, once the soil is warm. In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost.
Plant seeds 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep in rich, well-draining soil. When starting indoors, sow two seeds per pot and thin to the strongest seedling. Outdoors, sow thinly in rows and later thin seedlings to 18–24 inches apart.
Seeds typically germinate within 10–14 days when soil temperatures are consistently warm. Full sun is essential for strong growth and maximum yields.
Red Okra Burgundy thrives in full sun and fertile soil amended with compost. Water regularly, especially during hot weather, but avoid waterlogged soil. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Keep plants spaced properly to allow airflow and reduce disease risk. Okra grows quickly in warm conditions and begins flowering soon after establishment. 🌼
To encourage continuous production, harvest pods frequently. Leaving mature pods on the plant slows down new pod formation. Regular picking ensures higher yields and better pod quality.
Harvest pods when they are young and tender, ideally 2 1/2 to 3 inches long, though they remain tender up to 6 inches. Pods develop rapidly after flowering, so check plants every one to two days during peak production.
For seed use, allow some pods to fully mature and dry on the plant. Harvest beans when pods are plump and seeds are still soft if using fresh.
Red Okra Burgundy is excellent in gumbo, jambalaya, stews, stir-fries, and fried dishes. The pods can be cooked whole or sliced and are valued for their natural thickening properties. Their mild sweetness and tender texture make them versatile in many recipes. 🍲

Do not order to P.O. Boxes, or if you cannot be home to sign for the package, parcels cannot be left with neighbors.
